Have to admit I completely forgot about this blog yet again. I made a pre-new year resolution to make an entry at least once a week, but it the cold light of day I'm not sure I've got enough snaps. In that spirit here are a selection of snaps of what I consider to be a wasted opportunity.
I lived in Stamford for several years, and go back regularly to see my daughter. I remember when the area south of the tracks and near the harbor was full of pretty dilapidated low cost housing. A combination of single and multi family clapboard homes, scrubland and the odd illegal garbage tip. About 10 years ago it was all cleared away to make way for an affordable housing project. It's a great plot of land, right by the coast with beaches and marinas close by - a wonderful opportunity to do something beautiful with possibly an organic feel, representing the meeting of land and ocean. A chance to use contemporary architecture to create a beautiful community. That's what I thought, but what they actually built is shown below. I'm sure they have their reasons, cost per unit being one I imagine - I was just hoping for more.
