I've been taking snaps of Camber Sands on and off for six years. In the summer the sandy part of the beach is chocablock with holiday makers, especially when the tide is in, space is confined and they're beach towel to beach towel, covered in suntan lotion and ice cream and hoping not to get shat on by ever present herring gulls. This is not when I take snaps. I'm more interested in the huge space and its rather bleak beauty in the off season.
In the autumn, winter and early spring months the Sands are more like a large park. People ride their horses, fly their kites, walk their dogs, promenade or just go for an amble with a metal detector. There are always people there, but it can still feel empty. Here are snaps from the past couple of years. One day I'll get around to digging out the older stuff, shot in storms. Nikon D800e and D700. 12-24, 24-120 and 80-200 lenses.
