Between Deadmans Lane, The Grove and Rye Road is a large copse of chestnut and oak trees, that has been home to a variety of corvids for as long as anyone can remember. Rooks are the prominent birds, and seem to leave at the end of August after chicks have fledged, returning in numbers in February and March to haggle and hedge for favourite nesting places, quite often rebuilding the previous abandoned nests, stealing twigs from neighbours nests and generally making a racket. I spent several weeks photographing them as they arrived and started the hustle.
